I think today the vast majority of people have come to realise that our governments are wrong.
There is a global groundswell of opinion that is set against the corporations, self appointed "world government" of bankers and the rein of raving madmen and madwomen. Greater Bilderbergia is a mythical empire populated by fantasists, not-quite-right-in-the-head corporate gang masters and their brainwashed peons.
This massive failure of logic and humanity corrupts our governments and institutions, worse still it attacks our populations all around the world. Below I've posted a video that exposes the tip of the global psychopathic iceberg that is our government and the military industrial complex that bankrolls the corruption and squanders all of our scarce resources.

This way of life/death is unsustainable and must now be consigned to the cess pit of history.
We resist this insanity as a wave and as a particle because each can do her or his part to bring about change by a billion small acts across the world. We must keep up the constant drip feed of information that serves to undermine the legitimacy of the military-industrial complex and attack the (misplaced) confidence that mutant capitalism and its accompanying militarism depends upon to survive.
This year sees the centenary in Europe of the so called Great War which like all wars solved nothing and was indeed the Great Con Trick of the robber barons and their political puppets, monarchs and gangsters of one sort or another.
We in the global transition movement are taking this opportunity to debunk the 'official' storyline and show what absolute folly our forebears allowed themselves to be drawn into. Bamboozled, disinformed and indoctrinated both sides set about slaughtering or maiming a whole generation Never again!
In 1914 millions were to die in the "war to end all wars" - now a hundred years later people of goodwill are mobilised globally to call in that huge debt to humanity once and for all.
End the destruction, derail the propaganda of war...and take heart - in this country we are enjoying great success in those anti-war, pro-sanity endeavours.
Despite the best efforts of the propagandists and psyop jockies the petrochemical wars have never achieved any widespread support in the UK, the bomber pilots returning from NATO missions are not seen as heroes just the stand-ins for drones as a more cost effective way of delivering WMD, there is nothing heroic about terror bombing a defenceless country like Libya, its just the latest version of Guernica - same shit just different arseholes - that's all.

The War Making Petrol-Based Business did hit a speed bump, AA, over the intervention on Syria this year. It was a surprise to many, but evidence to me that popular opinion could be pushed only so far. But will the lessons learned from the wars in Afghanistan (the USA's longest war) and the folly of the Second Iraq War be heeded in the next year, and the next? I agree so long as we are dependent on supplies of energy and the corporate, global power structures needed to bring that energy to the marketplace, via tanker and gun and ship and drones, we will always run the risk that the next conflict will be a repeat of 1914 or 1939 or another Vietnam, 1964 or Iraq, 2003, and on and on.
ReplyDeleteThis latest war, one not expanded, was an albeit rare example of the people-driven "peace" that President Eisenhower spoke about when West and East were locked in a Cold War. He knew enough to see there were had no winning solutions, just bad options.
I think every thinking adult needs to reflect on this centenary of the "Guns of August" in 1914, that convulsed Europe and dragged other nations (colonies, Dominions, and allies) into the largest human disaster---until the second phase of that war erupted in 1939. The people of Europe found out firsthand what a war over petrol resources and ginned-up nationalistic slogans was going to lead to--industrialized slaughter-houses, death from above, and a Final Solution.
Would any of this had been so disastrous IF the leaders of the Great Empires of Europe had turned around and demobilized? I like the idea this video brings up of putting defense back into the Defense Department and ratcheting down US
and UK interests beyond a common defense of our oldest and closest allies if all other options fail.
Making "friends" in places where one is not wanted is just playing the old imperialist game, with new weapons and old cultural clashes. Consider what interests NATO or any military organization would have for intervention without oil interests to protect. War would essentially be the last resort, not the one that is used when "leaders step out of line" and other jingo talk. Force would only be needed to protect civilian populations from harm, not to control or obtain anything energy-based underground and far away.
Were that we could have spent a tenth of all that waste on that renewable-fuel economy the industrialized nations should have working on since the 1973 OPEC embargo.
None of our other global problems--from weather changes to food shortages to overpopulation and economic dislocations leading to high immigration--would be so bad if human resources weren't militarized, leading to hundreds of billions in spending.

Thanks for your comprehemsive comments here Doug, apologies for taking so long to respond... a case of "events dear boy, events" as Harold McMillan probably never actually did say... but which is oft times misquoted as his reply when asked by a journalist - what would be most like to 'blow the government off course'.
ReplyDeleteWell I may not have been blown off course by "events" so much as the gales that have been sweeping the country for weeks now, but here I am back on course hopefully and responding to your thoughts on the hydrocarbon wars and the neo-imperialism of NATO.
Firstly thanks for reminding me that Afghanistan is America's longest war, it is indeed one theatre of a perpetual war that the US and its NATO allies have perpetrated in order to further enrich the arms dealers and all the profiteers that exploit these crimes against peace, war crimes and crimes against humanity.
For the past 13 years NATO has been pursuing a war of aggression in Africa, the Middle East and Eurasia, there is no likelihood of these perpetual wars coming to an end while the PNAC ideology remains dominant and all international relationships are premised by militarism, internatial criminality and illegal invasions.
The picture is I think very complex and bears no resemblance whatsoever to the 'official' account - as reported in the corporate media.
It is I believe a situation in which al Qaeda is in reality an ally of the US and NATO, a Wahabi covert force pursuing US policy objectives one of which is to continue to support, be entertained by and to prop-up the Saudi kingdom and to collude with potentates in wiping out any flowering of democracy in the Persian Gulf region.
In that sense I would not want to differentiate between the legitimacy of the 1st over the 2nd Iraq wars, they were both part of the same strategy to snuff out democratic ambitions in the Middle East by a massive show of force which is still being brutally played out in Bahrain, the Emirates, Yemen and elsewhere.
I think the main difficulty of putting defence back into the Defence Industry is that it was always a misnomer intended to obscure the real reasons for the endless conflicts ignited and fanned in conflagrations throughout the world by NATO.
Africa is a classic case in point and is central to the PNAC vision of world full-spectrum domination by the US and its allies.
I think that the information age has made the machinations of these geopolitical gamesters rather more visible, despite the amount of disinformation and 'interference' there is in cyberspace as is the case in the real world too.
The result of this is I think widespead disaffection with the global situation and a dogged resistance to the self appointed so-called " world government" PNAC sees as Washington's prize in the 21st century.
Personally I cannot see any way of changing this through the ballot box or the established formal political structures in any of the NATO countries, but only by the ever increasing disaffection which will I think eventually reach a critical tipping point. Hopefully this will happen before it gets too late to do anything about the chaos unleashed by monsters. In terms of ideas and countervailing ideologies the war parties have already lost the argument, the former hegemony is weakened and undermined by a largely silent, but stubbornly uncooperative global majority that means most propaganda falls and withers on unfertile ground.

He wrote in 'A Power Governments Cannot Suppress'... “Our history runs deep with the stories of people who stand up, speak out, dig in, organize, connect, form networks of resistance and alter the course of history."
Revolution as Howard Zinn rightly pointed out comprises of millions of small acts of resistance and for me that is the only way to the safer and saner world the transition movement visualises on the horizon, beyond the insanity and the greed that is the current political status quo across the failing empire of the military industrial complex a.k.a.Greater Bilderbergia or NATO.

Thanks for comprehensive reply, AA, and the quotations from Howard Zinn, who emerged as one of the most influential historians of American istroy by simply not ignoring what is generally left out of popular history.
DeleteI do hope the winds and high tides have settled, or will settle down soon, in your neck of the Anglosphere. There is no question that the waste that benefits the makers of costly and probably unnecessary weapons like the F-35 fighter plane, to cite one example, certainly do not have any people's best interests in peace in mind.
The picture in the Middles East we get through the corporate media certainly is likely to suffer from the perception that democracy can be imposed from another source like the external Western powers through NATO. I agree nothing like this seems to have come about from the long and fruitless military interventions.
DeleteI would be curious to know what you thought of the "Arab Spring" movements of 2012 and beyond and if this seemed an indigenous movement especially in places like Egypt, Tunisia and the unfolding human rights disaster in Syria. Thanks Doug, I had typed a long response which has 'disappeared' as Blogger glitches have a wont to do....I will reassemble the argument and repost it soon. Thanks for your comments, I will respond (again) but in a nutshell the reasons for the Arab Spring are IMF policies, PNAC, Continuity of US Government plans after the 9/11 false flag events, destabilisation of Middle East/ North Africa region, loony full spectrum dominance strategies, sick-in-the-head psychopathy and world domination psychosis. That's about it as I say 'in a nutshell' Doug... of which more later. Cheers Doug
