for everyone

It would seem to me that the anti-China, pro-Tibet campaign that has been globally orchestrated around the Olympic Games represents a 'lost horizon' for the protest movement.

'Multiply' like other social networks is full of expressed indignation at China for the reported suppression of Tibetan national aspirations and cultural integrity.

Much of this campaign in the west is centred around the Dalai Lama  the most recognized icon of Tibetan national sovereignty, a widely trusted spiritual leader driven into exile by the Chinese communists in 1959.

The Dalai Lama is to some an enlightened living Buddha, but even within secular western societies he is portrayed and is generally accepted as a benign and forgiving victim of injustice who bears his exile with grace and serenity.

The protest movement has by and large uncritically bought this image from the corporate media. The Olympics has provided an opportunity to further romanticise Tibet and demonize China in the popular consciousness of western societies.
Like in all fairy tales the Dalai Lama is a personification of the good, the blameless and the morally superior, whilst the government of China is cast in the role of the bad, the evil and the undisputed wrongdoer.

These stereotypes are juxtaposed in the media to inspire a sense of moral outrage against China as it prepares to host the Olympic Games and the hallowed Olympic torch has become the focus for widescale righteous indignation in the west.

It is my point here that these views are not only misguided, they represent a classic 'double think' situation where'
war is peace, freedom is slavery and ignorance is strength'.

The apparent success of this PSYOP campaign hinges upon this mythic juxtaposition of good and evil.
It also has other resonances with Olympian history, most particularly the 1936 'Nazi Olympics' when Jesse Owens played a propaganda role not dissimilar to the Dalai Lama now, but with some important differences. I will return to this point in my concluding remarks.

When China militarily annexed Tibet as an autonomous region during the 1950s, it was a backward and brutal, medieval theocracy and not any kind of magical kingdom or enlightened lost province of Nirvana

A potted history of Tibet and the arrival of the Dalai Lama is given here by Michael Parenti for his full text please see http://www.michaelparenti.org/Tibet.html

"For hundreds of years competing Tibetan Buddhist sects engaged in bitterly violent clashes and summary executions.
In 1660, the 5th Dalai Lama was faced with a rebellion in Tsang province, the stronghold of the rival Kagyu sect with its high lama known as the Karmapa.
The 5th Dalai Lama called for harsh retribution against the rebels, directing the Mongol army to obliterate the male and female lines, and the offspring too “like eggs smashed against rocks…. In short, annihilate any traces of them, even their names.”
In 1792, many Kagyu monasteries were confiscated and their monks were forcibly converted to the Gelug sect (the Dalai Lama’s denomination).
The Gelug school, known also as the “Yellow Hats,” showed little tolerance or willingness to mix their teachings with other Buddhist sects.
In the words of one of their traditional prayers: “Praise to you, violent god of the Yellow Hat teachings/who reduces to particles of dust/ great beings, high officials and ordinary people/ who pollute and corrupt the Gelug doctrine.” 8
An eighteenth-century memoir of a Tibetan general depicts sectarian strife among Buddhists that is as brutal and bloody as any religious conflict might be.  This grim history remains largely unvisited by present-day followers of Tibetan Buddhism in the West.

Religions have had a close relationship not only with violence but with economic exploitation. Indeed, it is often the economic exploitation that necessitates the violence.
Such was the case with the Tibetan theocracy. Until 1959, when the Dalai Lama last presided over Tibet, most of the arable land was still organized into manorial estates worked by serfs.
These estates were owned by two social groups: the rich secular landlords and the rich theocratic lamas. Even a writer sympathetic to the old order allows that “a great deal of real estate belonged to the monasteries, and most of them amassed great riches.” Much of the wealth was accumulated “through active participation in trade, commerce, and money lending.”
It was this somewhat less than idyllic state of affairs that characterised Tibetan life prior to the arrival of Chinese communists in 1951.
Earlier visitors to Tibet commented on the theocratic despotism. In 1895, an Englishman, Dr. A. L. Waddell, wrote that the populace was under the “intolerable tyranny of monks” and the devil superstitions they had fashioned to terrorize the people. In 1904 Perceval Landon described the Dalai Lama’s rule as “an engine of oppression.” At about that time, another English traveler, Captain W.F.T. O’Connor, observed that “the great landowners and the priests… exercise each in their own dominion a despotic power from which there is no appeal,” while the people are “oppressed by the most monstrous growth of monasticism and priest-craft” (see Parenti reference above).

Let's have no illusions here, Tibet was no Shangri La when it was run for centuries by a corrupt Buddhist theocratic dictatorship, although in the 20th century it has been idealized in the popular culture of the west as a lost paradise.

So, where did these idealized notions of Shangri La come from?

Well some of it originated in the musings of western orientalists during the 19th century, they set the scene for a more sinister reading of Tibet's significance in 1930s Germany.

In 1938 the Nazi government sent a high ranking delegation to Tibet at the invitation of the government in Llasa.
The Nazi party itself had grown out of an occult secret society called the 'Thule Society' that was first established in Germany in 1910.

In 1919, the Thule Society spawned the German Workers Party. Starting later that year, Dietrich Eckart, a member of the inner circle of the Thule Society, initiated Hitler into the Society and began to train him in its methods for harnessing vril (for definition of vril, please see link below) to create a race of Aryan supermen.

Several postwar studies on Nazism and the Occult, such as Trevor Ravenscroft in The Spear of Destiny (1973), have asserted that under the influence of the Thule Society, Germany sent annual expeditions to Tibet from 1926 to 1943.

For more detail of Nazi occultism please see this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazi_mysticism

Most influential amongst the Nazi occultists was Gestapo chief Heinrich Himmler who sent a trusted SS colleague Heinrich Harrer to Tibet in 1939.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heinrich_Harrer

Harrer was subsequently detained by the British as an enemy alien, but he escaped British custody in India in 1944 and returned to Tibet where he met the present Dalai Lama, then aged 11.
Harrer was an elite SS member at the time he met the 11 year old Dalai Lama and became his tutor in "the world outside Tibet."
While only the Dalai Lama knows the contents of Harrer's private lessons, the two remained close friends until Harrer died aged 93 in 2006.

It would appear that the Dalai Lama learned his lessons well from his Nazi tutor.
In April 1999, along with Margaret Thatcher, and former Beijing Ambassador, CIA Director and President, George H.W. Bush, the Dalai Lama demanded the
British government release Augusto Pinochet, the former fascist
dictator of Chile and a longtime CIA client who was arrested whilst visiting England.

The Dalai Lama urged that Pinochet not be forced to go to Spain where
he was wanted to stand trial for crimes against humanity. The DalaiLama had close ties to Miguel Serrano2, head of Chile's National Socialist Party, a proponent of something called 'Esoteric Hitlerism'.
For contemporaneous report of the Dalai Lama's campaign to have Pinochet "forgiven" for his crimes against humanity, please see this link. http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/1999/04/11/pinochet990411.html

Throughout his exile in India the Dalai Lama has been heavily supported financially by the CIA and other western intelligence agencies, he is without doubt their man.

Michael Barker in his 2007 paper "Democratic Imperialism" says

People familiar with Asian history will be aware that during Tibet’s popular uprising against their Chinese occupiers in 1959, his Holiness Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama (then aged 23), escaped from his homeland of Tibet to live in exile in India. Subsequently, the Dalai Lama formed a Tibetan government-in-exile, and to this day the Dalai Lama and his government remain in exile.  The Dalai Lama’s tireless efforts to draw international attention to the Tibetan cause received a welcome boost in 1989 when he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, and since then the Dalai Lama has been able to demand sustained media attention (globally) to his ongoing non-violent struggle for a free Tibet. This part of Tibetan history is fairly uncontroversial, but a part of Tibet’s story that less people will be familiar with is Tibet’s historical links to the US’s Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Indeed, as Carole McGranahan (2006) notes “the case of Tibet presents a mostly unexplored example of covert Cold War military intervention".
'While in recent years far more information has been made available concerning the CIA’s violent linkages with Tibetan forces, to date only one article has examined the connection between Tibet’s current independence campaigners and an organization that maintains close ties with the CIA, the National Endowment for Democracy (NED)'.
Barker goes on to say.....

"I
ndeed, according to formerly secret US intelligence documents (released in the late 1990s), it turned out that “[f]or much of the 1960s, the CIA provided the Tibetan exile movement with $1.7 million a year for operations against China, including an annual subsidy of $180,000 for the Dalai Lama”.[5] By 1969, however, it appears that covert support for the Tibetan cause had either served its geopolitical purpose (or it was decided that these operations were simply no longer effective), and the CIA announced the withdrawal of its aid for the Tibetan revolutionaries. That said, support for the Tibetan freedom fighters was still provided by the Indian and Taiwanese governments “until 1974, two years after President Richard Nixon normalized U.S. relations with China” (as were the U.S. subsidies for the Dalai Lama, which also continued until 1974): however, thereafter – especially once the Dalai Lama urged the fighters to put down their weapons – the violent resistance collapsed and the “CIA quietly paid to resettle the survivors”.Link http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=6530

Concluding Remarks

The purpose of this post is to raise questions about the current moral panic in the west around Chinese intervention in Tibet and to give some pointers as to the reasons for this news item. This is the real Olympic games, the geopolitical manoeuvres aimed at the destabilisation of China.

I have attempted to show here the Dalai Lama's direct and long term connections to both the Esoteric Hitler Nazi's and also the CIA via it's front organisation, the NED

Above I made some comparisons between the 1936 and the 2008 Olympics when I suggested a propaganda link between Jesse Owens and the Dalai Lama, but without further explanation this comment is grossly unfair to Owens I think.
Owens was an athlete and a good one, it was not him but what he represented that has resonances for the current pro-Tibet campaign and that is a unhealthy dollop of hypocrisy and double standards.

Just as when Owens was being lauded as a champion of freedom over tyranny in the 1930s, certain white residents of his native Alabama were evicting, beating and lynching his fellow black Americans with alarming regularity and it carried on for more than 3 decades after Owens great 'triumph'.
Details here outlining the enormous scale of this outrage:- http://www.autopsis.org/foot/lynchplaces1.html

The hypocrisy in the current anti-China, pro-Tibet protest movement is that it is taking place in countries which have illegally invaded other countries, tortured their citizens and maimed and murdered them in their hundreds of thousands.
Because it is safer to join campaigns that have the backing of the mainline media doesn't mean it is right, moral or virtuous to do so.

To be content with a mythic tale of good and evil rather than examine the realities that underlie it, may make people feel good about themselves vis a vis the Chinese, but it would be entirely unjustified when the evidence is laid out.

The whole Tibet-Olympic bandwagon is an attempt to deflect protest in the west, so far as those of us who protest the bogus 'war on terror' are concerned, it is nothing more than a media inspired counter demonstration. The aim of course is to get protesters and activists to say I know we have done wrong, but the Chinese are worse and change their aim toward a softer target.
It also has been orchestrated to expedite protest fatigue so as a cause it has been officially chosen for us to expend our energies upon harmlessly.

As PSYOPs go it's not a bad effort I suppose, I'd probably give it around 6 out of 10 , but so far as addressing the big issues of our time are concerned, it is at best a fabricated distraction, at worst it engenders a global conflict mindset, that further endangers the world at large.

Criticism of China is appropriate when it is set within the wider geopolitical context, but it should be informed criticism... rather than a simplistic belief in 'good guys' versus 'bad guys' drawn from the spin doctors and servile corporate media of the west. That's the stuff patsies are made of.... it's called crude propaganda - a longstanding fascist speciality.

So I'll pass on that petition I think.
